Cavities
WHAT CAUSES DECAY?

Almost everyone (more than 90% of people in North America) suffers from dental decay, including children. The main culprits are poor oral hygiene and a diet with a high sugar content.

Our mouths have countless, usually useful bacteria. But some bacteria convert the sugar into acid, which then attacks the enamel and, unless treated, the dentine.

The terrible thing about cavities is that pain is not experienced until the decay has progressed to the nerve. A damaged tooth cannot be regenerated, only repaired. Thus, regular dental examinations are all the more important. The earlier your dentist can discover the cavity, the quicker and easier it can be treated.

The Progression of Cavities From the Enamel to the Root

HAVE YOUR TEETH EXAMINED REGULARLY

The best teeth are always your own. To keep them healthy, we use a new and modern device for early detection of cavities.

The DIAGNOdent® cavities detector uses a low powered laser, which is reflected by the teeth. The reflected light returns to the DIAGNOdent® and is measured. The DIAGNOdent® can identify the teeth that have cavities and those that don't. It can even tell your dentist exactly where in the tooth it is - it is that accurate.

The DIAGNOdent® indicates the results visually and acoustically. So a beep tone enables you to hear whether and to what extent our teeth are affected by decay.

Thanks to this modern technique, very small decay (even under the enamel) can be detected and treated in good time. DIAGNOdent® is a great diagnostic procedure for children since it is completely painless and even fun!
