Fillings:

Below is a comparison of the various tooth filling material options. In days of great controversy about toxic substances used in some dental materials, it is important to understand and have choices for several alternative materials. For information on cavities and their prevention, click here.

It is our personal wish to provide the best quality, longest lasting dentistry possible. Each time a filling is replaced, a larger quantity of precious tooth structure is lost. Often a filling will require replacement 4 to 5 times in a lifetime. Sometimes the tooth will fracture or require root canal throughout this time period. Although a cast inlay restoration seems to be expensive in the short term, it is usually the last investment required for the tooth. Often by placing inlays you prevent future fillings, root canals and crowns.

As dental professionals, it is our responsibility to inform you of your options. Each of these materials has risks and advantages. Consider your desired aesthetic and structural result, the financial investment and time commitment. Please consider your personal long term goals for your dental health and let your conscience be your guide in choosing what is best for yourself.
